ITIAN ChatGPT Academy
Technology Simplified — Solutions That Work
Build Your Personal AI Profile
Bring personality, instructions, memory, project context and privacy choices together into one practical, maintainable profile that helps ChatGPT work with you consistently.
What You Will Achieve
By the end of this lesson, you will have a copy-ready personal AI profile, a safe plan for where each instruction belongs and a repeatable test for checking whether the profile is genuinely helping.
Define
Clarify your goals, working style and learning needs.
Place
Put each preference in the smallest useful scope.
Protect
Remove secrets and unnecessary personal details.
Test
Try realistic tasks and compare the results.
Maintain
Record a version and review it over time.
What Is a Personal AI Profile?
It is a short, deliberate description of how you want ChatGPT to collaborate with you. It is not a digital identity card, a password store or a place for your entire life story.
🧭 Your collaboration guide
A useful profile describes your preferred language, level of explanation, tone, working areas, quality standards and how you want suggestions presented.
- Clear enough to guide future answers
- Short enough to maintain
- Specific enough to test
- Safe enough to reuse
🧱 A combination of settings
Your finished experience can be shaped by several controls working together:
- Personality and available characteristics
- Custom Instructions
- Memory and chat history settings
- Project-specific instructions
- The request you make in the current conversation
Put Each Detail in the Right Place
Use the smallest scope that reliably supports the work. This reduces conflicts and makes your profile easier to update.
| Place | Best for | Example | Avoid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Current prompt | One task or one temporary change | “For this answer, give me only a five-step checklist.” | Permanent background that must be repeated every time |
| Project instructions | Rules belonging to one project | “Use ITIAN colours, New Zealand English and existing page slugs.” | Preferences that should affect unrelated chats |
| Custom Instructions | Explicit, reusable guidance across chats | “Teach step by step and explain unfamiliar terms.” | Passwords, private records or excessively long manuals |
| Personality | General communication style and tone | Friendly, professional or concise | Assuming it changes capability or safety rules |
| Memory | Useful context from conversations | Your ongoing interests or preferred way of working | Secrets or information you would not want reused |
| Temporary Chat | A conversation that should not use or create memories | A clean test or a sensitive one-off discussion | Work that depends on remembered project context |
ITIAN best-practice rule
Start with a short global profile. Put specialised website, photography or business rules inside the relevant Project. Add temporary requirements to the current prompt. This keeps your instructions focused and prevents unrelated rules from colliding.
Interactive Personal AI Profile Builder
Complete the fields, generate your profile and review it carefully before adding it to ChatGPT. The builder runs in this page and does not intentionally send your entries anywhere.
Privacy Check Before You Save
A good profile contains useful preferences, not sensitive credentials or private records.
⛔ Never include
- Passwords, passphrases or recovery codes
- API keys, authentication tokens or private keys
- Bank card or online-banking details
- Government identity numbers
- Confidential client, employee or third-party information
- Detailed health, legal or financial records unless truly necessary and appropriate
✅ Prefer safe descriptions
- “I prefer New Zealand English.”
- “I am learning website development.”
- “Ask before making a major design change.”
- “Use placeholders for private customer information.”
- “Remind me to remove identifying details from examples.”
If you do not want information from a conversation used for personalisation, review Memory controls or use Temporary Chat where appropriate.
Install, Test and Improve Your Profile
Do not judge the profile from one friendly greeting. Test it against the real work you expect ChatGPT to help you complete.
Review the wording
Remove repetition, conflicting instructions and anything private. Make each instruction observable.
Choose the right home
Place global preferences in Custom Instructions and specialised rules inside the relevant Project.
Start a fresh chat
Use a new conversation so you can evaluate the updated profile cleanly.
Run realistic tests
Try explanation, writing, planning, creative and project-continuation tasks.
Record the results
Note what worked, what felt repetitive and where the profile was ignored or misunderstood.
Publish version 1.0
Save a dated copy. Make one controlled change at a time when improving it.
Personal AI Profile Test Matrix
A reliable profile should improve different kinds of work without forcing every answer into the same shape.
| Test | Prompt idea | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Teaching | “Teach me an unfamiliar feature step by step.” | Does the explanation match your level and define unfamiliar terms? |
| Website development | “Create a production-ready landing page.” | Does it follow your accessibility, SEO and responsive-design standards? |
| Photography | “Help me critique a landscape photograph.” | Does it use constructive language and practical next steps? |
| Writing | “Rewrite this email professionally.” | Does it preserve meaning and use your preferred language style? |
| Planning | “Turn this goal into an organised project plan.” | Does it prioritise actions and suggest a sensible next step? |
| Uncertainty | “Recommend a current product or service.” | Does it verify time-sensitive facts and label uncertainty? |
| Continuity | “Continue this existing project from the supplied file.” | Does it preserve the source instead of unnecessarily starting again? |
