ITIAN Photography Academy
Technology Simplified — Solutions That Work
Welcome to Your Photography Journey
Learn to see light, understand your camera, compose with purpose and develop photographs you are proud to share—from your first deliberate image to a confident creative workflow.
You Belong Here
You do not need the newest camera, expensive lenses or years of experience. You need curiosity, regular practice and a willingness to look carefully at what is happening inside the frame.
Learn by making photographs
Every major idea connects to a practical activity. You will take photographs, compare results, identify what changed and use that evidence to improve your next attempt.
Train your creative eye
Camera settings matter, but seeing matters more. Learn to recognise light, shape, colour, gesture, timing, foreground, background and visual relationships.
Build a reliable workflow
Move confidently from planning and capture through selection, editing, organisation, backup, presentation and printing.
Full Academy Commitment
This is a substantial 20-lesson programme, not a 20-minute course. Allow approximately 30–40 hours for the lessons, exercises and assessments, with additional time for photography outings and your final portfolio.
This Welcome Page
Allow 20–30 minutes to read the orientation, create your starting goal and schedule the first practical activity.

Practical Guidance, One Step at a Time
Photography, technology and real-world learning
This Academy makes photography understandable without stripping away its creativity. Technical ideas are explained in plain language and then connected to photographs you can make yourself.
You will experiment, study your results and develop your own visual voice. The aim is not to copy another photographer’s style; it is to give you the skills and confidence to make deliberate creative decisions.
The ITIAN teaching promise
We will explain what to do, why it matters, how to practise it and how to recognise whether it worked.
What You Will Learn
The Academy develops technical confidence, creative judgement and a complete photographic workflow.
- Choose appropriate camera modes and settings.
- Understand aperture, shutter speed and ISO.
- Focus accurately and control depth of field.
- Recognise useful natural and artificial light.
- Compose photographs with stronger visual structure.
- Photograph landscapes, people, details and events.
- Select, organise and protect your image files.
- Edit photographs with restraint and purpose.
Your Academy Learning Path
The programme moves from foundations to confident creative practice. Each stage prepares you for the next.
Interactive Photography Goal Builder
Create an achievable starting goal: one subject, one skill and one simple practice routine.
Your First Photography Activity
This is a baseline exercise, not a test. It will help you notice your current habits so you can recognise your progress later.
1. Choose one subject
Select something available today: a person, tree, building, object, view or small detail.
2. Make five photographs
Change your distance, height, angle or framing for every image. Do not remain in one place.
3. Select one image
Choose the photograph that communicates most clearly. Consider light, timing and composition.
4. Record one observation
Write what worked and one thing you would change next time. Keep this as your starting point.
Reserved for an instructor introduction and Hokianga photography montage.
