🛡 Facebook Page Recovery
Lesson 37 explains how to recover a Facebook Business Page if you lose administrator access, are hacked, remove the wrong administrator, or discover someone has taken control of your Page.
Lesson Objective
By the end of this lesson you will understand how Facebook Pages are controlled, how administrator access works, what to do if you lose control, and how to minimise the chance of permanently losing your Page.
Why Page Recovery Is Different
Unlike a normal Facebook profile, a Business Page can have multiple administrators. If nobody with administrator access can log in, or if all administrators are removed, recovering the Page can become much more difficult.
Your Facebook profile controls your Facebook Page. If your personal account is compromised, your Business Page may also be at risk.
Common Reasons Pages Are Lost
- Administrator account hacked.
- Administrator removed accidentally.
- Former employee still has access.
- Only one administrator existed.
- Password stolen through phishing.
- Business Manager compromised.
- Page ownership transferred incorrectly.
- Facebook account disabled.
- Recovery email no longer works.
Signs Your Page Has Been Compromised
- You cannot log in.
- Unknown posts appear.
- Your advertisements begin running.
- Page name changes.
- Unknown administrators appear.
- Messages are sent without your knowledge.
- Business details change.
- Your access level changes unexpectedly.
Review your Page Access every month. It only takes a minute and can prevent major problems.
Immediate Recovery Steps
- Remain calm.
- Secure your Facebook account.
- Change your password.
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication.
- Check login history.
- Remove suspicious devices.
- Review Page Access.
- Remove unknown administrators.
- Review Meta Business Suite.
- Check advertising accounts.
If You Still Have Administrator Access
Recovery is usually much easier.
- Remove unknown users.
- Reset passwords.
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication.
- Review Business Manager permissions.
- Check connected Instagram accounts.
- Review payment methods.
- Save Page information.
If You Lost Administrator Access
If another administrator still controls the Page, contact them immediately. If no trusted administrator remains, begin Facebook’s official recovery process using the Help Centre.
There are many fake companies claiming they can recover Facebook Pages. Never give them passwords, login codes, or payment without verifying they are legitimate.
Review Page Access
Regularly check:
- Who has Facebook Access?
- Who has Task Access?
- Who has Full Control?
- Who no longer needs access?
- Who recently joined?
- Who has never logged in?
Administrator Best Practice
- Have at least two trusted administrators.
- Do not give everyone Full Control.
- Remove ex-staff immediately.
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication.
- Keep recovery emails updated.
- Review permissions monthly.
Business Manager Recovery
If your Page uses Meta Business Suite:
- Review Business Portfolio users.
- Review advertising accounts.
- Check payment methods.
- Remove suspicious users.
- Review connected assets.
- Check Instagram connections.
Recovering After Phishing
- Change passwords immediately.
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication.
- Log out unknown devices.
- Review Page Access.
- Review Business Manager.
- Warn other administrators.
- Review advertisements.
- Review payment methods.
A Page administrator clicks a fake copyright notice. The scammer logs into Facebook, adds themselves as an administrator, and removes the owner. Immediate action:
- Secure the personal Facebook account.
- Begin Facebook’s official recovery process.
- Warn remaining administrators.
- Review Business Suite.
- Review advertisements.
Recovery Preparation Checklist
- Two trusted administrators.
- Strong passwords.
- Two-Factor Authentication.
- Recovery email updated.
- Recovery phone updated.
- Monthly permission review.
- Password manager used.
- Administrator list documented.
Common Beginner Mistakes
- Only one administrator.
- Sharing passwords.
- Ignoring administrator changes.
- Not checking Business Manager.
- Leaving old staff with access.
- Ignoring login alerts.
- Trusting fake recovery companies.
Practical Exercise
- Review every Page administrator.
- Check Full Control users.
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication.
- Review Business Suite permissions.
- Check connected Instagram accounts.
- Document administrator names.
- Remove unnecessary access.
