Google Business Profile Guide

Google Business Photos

Use clear, accurate photos to help customers recognise your business, understand what you offer and feel confident about visiting or contacting you.

Add your photos

Photos Customers Need

Build a useful collection that shows the real customer experience rather than relying on only one cover image.

Logo

Add a clean, readable version of your logo to help customers recognise your brand across Google.

Cover Photo

Choose a strong image that represents the business. Google may still select another image to display first.

Exterior

Show the building, entrance, signage and approach so customers can find the business easily.

Interior

Show the real atmosphere, layout, accessibility and areas customers will use.

Products and Services

Photograph your most important products, completed work, equipment or service experience.

Team at Work

Introduce the people behind the business and show genuine work being completed safely and professionally.

Google Photo Requirements

Prepare files that meet Google’s current technical and quality guidance.

File formatJPG or PNG
File sizeBetween 10 KB and 5 MB
Recommended resolution720 pixels tall by 720 pixels wide
Minimum resolution250 pixels tall by 250 pixels wide
Image qualityIn focus and well lit
EditingNo significant alterations, excessive filters or misleading AI changes
Important: Photos and videos appear publicly only after the Business Profile has been verified.

Add Photos from a Computer

Google’s controls can change slightly, but the normal process is straightforward.

Open your Business Profile. Sign in to the managing Google account and find the business on Google Search or Maps.
Select Photos. Open the photo management area and choose the option to add photos.
Choose accurate images. Select clear files that represent the real business, products, services or location.
Upload and review. Add the images, then check the public profile after Google has processed them.
Keep the collection current. Add new images when products, staff, signage, rooms or services change.

Photography Checklist

Check each image before uploading it.

The image is sharp and properly focused.
Lighting is bright enough to show useful detail.
The subject is tidy and professionally presented.
The image accurately represents the real business.
Branding and signage are readable.
No private customer information is visible.
You own the image or have permission to use it.
The file meets Google’s format and size requirements.

A Practical Photo Plan

Start with a balanced set, then improve it over time.

Outside

Photograph the business from each direction customers may approach and at useful times of day.

Inside

Capture several wide views and a few useful details that show what customers can expect.

Your Work

Add a representative selection of products, services, completed projects and team activity.

Common Problems

The photo is not appearing

Confirm that the profile is verified, the image is not a duplicate, and the file meets Google’s requirements. Allow time for processing before trying again.

Google is not using my cover photo first

Adding a cover photo does not guarantee that it will always be the first image shown. Keep a strong overall photo collection so any selected image represents the business well.

A customer uploaded an unsuitable photo

Business owners cannot simply delete customer photos. Use Google’s reporting process when an image violates policy.

My images look dark or unclear

Retake them in better light, steady the camera, clean the lens and avoid heavy filters. Images should show the business as customers will actually experience it.
