About the academy
The ITIAN Smart Home, Water & Safety Academy helps everyday learners understand, install, test and maintain affordable smart systems with confidence.
Why this academy exists
Smart devices are most valuable when they make a home safer, protect essential equipment or provide reliable information when nobody is nearby.
This academy turns practical installations into clear learning experiences. Students see the purpose of a system, the equipment involved, the setup process, functional testing, maintenance and the lessons discovered through everyday use.

Connected learning
Each pathway stands on its own, while together they build a broader understanding of a safer and more connected property.
Protect pumps, understand float controls and develop reliable tank-level monitoring.
Learn how interconnected detection and alarm systems support early warning and response.
Connect devices, strengthen Wi-Fi coverage and create useful alerts and automatic actions.
The ITIAN method
Course material grows from practical investigation and is updated as each system is installed, tested and used.
Define the problem, system purpose, equipment and safety requirements.
Document the real setup carefully, including photographs and device settings.
Confirm normal operation, alarms, notifications and likely fault conditions.
Turn the experience into plain-language steps, field notes and checklists.
A standard you can recognise
A verified course is supported by equipment that Ian has personally installed or thoroughly tested. It records real observations instead of relying only on product descriptions.
Your guide
Ian D. Findlay · Electrical Inspector · Electrician · Water Treatment Operator · SCADA Systems Specialist
Ian's working life has centred on electrical systems, water treatment, monitoring, inspection and practical fault finding. The academy brings that experience together with his interests in smart technology, photography, web development and lifelong learning.
The teaching style is friendly and methodical: explain the purpose, show the process, identify risks, test the result and record what was learned.
Return to the academy profileSafety comes first
Academy guidance supports learning and planning. It does not replace manufacturer instructions, local requirements or work that must be completed by a suitably qualified professional. Never work on live electrical equipment, and always use the correct safety and testing procedures.
