Key Concepts

Products on Google Business Profile

The Products feature allows businesses to showcase individual items they sell directly on their Google Business Profile. When customers search for your business, they may see your products in a dedicated tab or section. This is particularly powerful for retail businesses, cafes, restaurants and any business that sells physical products.

Adding Products

Navigate to your profile's Products section and click "Add product". For each product, you can include: a product name, category, price (optional), description (up to 1,000 characters), and a photo. You can also add a direct link to buy the product on your website or link to more information.

Product Categories

Organise your products into categories to make browsing easy for customers. Categories appear as filter tabs on your products section. For example, a bakery might use categories like "Bread", "Cakes", "Pastries" and "Seasonal Specials". Well-organised categories improve user experience and increase the likelihood of customers clicking through to your website or placing an order.

Product Descriptions

Write product descriptions that are informative, honest and include relevant keywords. Mention key features, materials, sizes, flavours or other relevant details. A good product description helps customers make purchasing decisions without needing to call or visit, reducing friction in the buying journey.

Product Photos

Always include a high-quality photo with each product listing. Products with photos significantly outperform those without. Use clear, well-lit photos on a plain background or in context. Ensure photos are accurate representations of what customers will actually receive — misleading photos lead to complaints and negative reviews.

Step-by-Step Practice

Navigate to Products in your Google Business Profile dashboard.
List your top 10 products or menu items with names, descriptions and prices.
Create product categories that group your products logically.
Add a high-quality photo to each product listing.
Add a purchase or product page link from each product to your website where applicable.
Ian's practical tip: I have added at least 5 products with descriptions and photos. Products are organised into logical categories. Product descriptions are accurate and include relevant keywords. I have linked products to the relevant pages on my website.

Practical Activity

Complete and record this task

Start with your top 5 best-selling products — these are the most important to showcase. Once those are complete, add the remainder. A complete, well-photographed product list can significantly increase click-through rates from your profile to your website.
