Key Concepts

Why Videos Matter

Videos are the most engaging content type across all digital platforms. On Google Business Profile, listings with videos receive significantly more views and customer actions than those without. A 30-second video can convey your business atmosphere, showcase your work quality and build trust in a way that photos alone cannot match.

Technical Specifications

Maximum video length: 30 seconds. Maximum file size: 75 MB. Minimum resolution: 720p (1280x720px). Recommended resolution: 1080p (1920x1080px). Accepted format: MP4 (also AVI, FLV, MOV, MPEG, MKV, WebM). Videos must not: be obviously promotional/advertising only, contain watermarks or overlays from other platforms, or violate Google's content guidelines.

Video Ideas for Business Profiles

Business tour video: A 20–30 second walkthrough of your premises — enter from the street, through reception, and show the key areas customers will use. Work in progress: Show your product being made, your service being performed or your team at work. Customer testimonial: A brief authentic testimonial from a happy customer (with their permission). Seasonal greeting: A short update during holiday periods showing your team and wishing customers well. How-to tips: Quick, useful tips relevant to your industry that position you as an expert.

Filming Tips

Shoot horizontally (landscape orientation) for the best display on most screens. Use a tripod or stable surface to eliminate camera shake. Keep movement slow and deliberate. Film during daylight hours with good natural light. Record in a quiet environment or add background music in editing. Keep the video focused and purposeful — do not include long pauses or irrelevant footage.

Editing

Free video editing tools include DaVinci Resolve (desktop), CapCut (mobile) and iMovie (Apple). Keep editing simple — trim the start and end, add a brief text title and ensure the audio is clear. Export at 1080p resolution in MP4 format for best results.

Step-by-Step Practice

Plan a 20–30 second video for your business — choose the most impactful option (tour, work in progress, testimonial).
Film the video in landscape orientation with good natural lighting and a clean, professional background.
Edit the video to remove any unnecessary footage at the start and end.
Export as MP4 at 1080p resolution and confirm the file is under 75 MB.
Upload the video through the Photos section of your Google Business Profile.
Ian's practical tip: I have planned and filmed a business video under 30 seconds. The video is exported as MP4 at 1080p resolution. I have uploaded the video to my Google Business Profile. The video displays correctly and adds value to the profile.

Practical Activity

Complete and record this task

The best business video is authentic and genuine — not over-produced. Customers respond more positively to a natural, honest 20-second walkthrough than a slick corporate promotional video. Use your smartphone, speak naturally, and show the real character of your business.
